It is a story about a man called Jack English, his past and his present. Forty years ago – the past Forty years ago, Jack was a young farmer. He grew vegetables under the hills. The hills were beautiful but strange. He had a wife, a son and a daughter. Life was hard but he did not like to work. One day, he went into the hills for a walk. Suddenly, he heard a voice calling his name. Then he saw a strange old man with a grey beard carrying a big barrel. Jack followed the old man into a beautiful but strange place. He saw a few more old men who looked exactly like the old man with the grey beard. The old men just sat there drinking from a big barrel. Jack liked it there because he did not have to work. He sat down and took a drink. Then he slept... Forty years later – the present Jack wakes up in the morning and he wants to go home. Jack walks down the hills and everything is changed! Forty years were lost! And now he is an old man. His wife and his friends are dead. Jack does not understand. What happened en he slept? Luckily, he finds his daughter, Betty. Betty has a family now and she has a son called Paul. What will Paul do when he meets his grandfather with the grey beard, a strange old man in old clothes? Will life be the same for Jack after forty years? Can Jack live in the “present”? Does he know what a TV remote control is? Does he know the computer Teacher's notes included.
