Areas of polygons and circles (English subtitles available)

Some real-life situations of a furniture shop form the story of the programme and they bring forth the discussions on the teaching contents of the areas of polygons and circles. Through the calculation of the floor area of a shop, it is pointed out that sometimes it is easier to calculate the areas of a figure by using the areas of some simple shapes. In investigating the height of a triangular logo, the method of using the area of a triangle to calculate the height of the triangle is introduced. In the dispute on the price of a marble table, the ‘dissection method’ and ‘fill up method’ for calculating the area of a figure is also elaborated. Finally, the formula for the area of a circle is deduced with the help of the division of a pizza into small pieces.
